Evolutionary Ecology of Zoonotic Pathogens during Agricultural Transformations

About this project

The Leibniz ScienceCampus EcoPath will apply principles of evolutionary ecology to gain a causal understanding of the mechanisms that allow zoonotic pathogens to persist, multiply, and cycle in the environment. Three emerging groups of zoonotic pathogens (Clostridioides difficile, enterococci, porcine coronaviruses) with different host ranges, genetic variability, and transmission rates will be studied in an integrative approach to understand the ecological drivers of evolution. EcoPath brings together six institutions - Leibniz Institute DSMZ, German Primate Center, Technical University Braunschweig, Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover, Thünen Institute, and Helmholtz-Zentrum für Infektionsforschung.
