Research in Systematics & Evolution focuses on the immense diversity of microbial life and the evolutionary mechanisms shaping it. Leveraging the unique bioresources of the DSMZ, microorganisms are taxonomically characterized, phylogenetically classified, and placed into an evolutionary context. This work provides a robust foundation for reliable classification systems, reproducible science, and a shared global understanding of microbial diversity.
